Old lens
While it's possible to get a nice shallow depth of field with a telephoto lens, unless one is wealthy enough to afford Canon's L glass, (or lucky enough to be paid to do this stuff, hint hint) it's still damned difficult to get the same effect from telephoto because of f5.6 aperture versus f1.8. I'd probably pay Canon $1500-2000 for a 17-170 f2.8 Image Stabilized EF-S lens. The same thing in L? $5,000, easy. Get busy, Canon.
And I'm telling you all this for free! Sheesh.
